At Ideal Foot & Ankle Group, we offer the most advanced and practical solutions for chronic Heel Pain
What Is EPAT?
EPAT treatments use acoustic waves to break down scar tissue and to improve blood circulation. These treatments can stimulate the healing process to reduce the impact of injuries and to ensure the best outcomes for patients with a variety of issues, including Achilles tendinitis, plantar fasciitis and other chronic heel pain conditions that result from damage to soft tissues inside your feet and ankles. Pain relief for patients undergoing EPAT typically starts sometime after the first treatment. The full effect of EPAT procedures, however, is not usually realized until about 12 weeks of treatments in our office. According to podiatric experts, about 80 percent of patients who undergo EPAT report a significant reduction in pain levels and improved mobility.
The Advantages of EPAT
What to Expect During Your EPAT Treatment

The podiatric team at Ideal Foot & Ankle Group will provide you with complete information on this treatment option before we begin. In general, the process involves a few simple steps:
- Coupling gel will be applied to the skin of affected areas of your foot and ankle.
- We will then use a small handheld applicator that delivers pressure waves directly to the areas to be treated. Your technician will use a slow, circular motion to apply these waves.
- Over the course of your EPAT procedure, the intensity of the waves applied to your foot and ankle will gradually increase.
- The entire process typically takes between five and 10 minutes from start to finish. This may vary depending on the size of the area to be treated and the level of EPAT waves required to achieve the desired results.
- You can usually return to your regular activities within a day or two. You will be able to bear weight on the foot as soon as your treatment is complete.
Our team will discuss the benefits of this treatment and its likely effect on your heel pain to ensure that you understand why the EPAT procedure may be the best choice for you.
